The National Ocean Service (NOS) engages formal and informal education audiences to build environmental literacy through products and programs that incorporate applied science. We support the infusion of NOS content into curricula through professional development opportunities at local, regional, and national conferences and workshops with educators. Additionally, our e-newsletter, The Watch, provides a wide range of resources, including funding opportunities, lesson plans, and upcoming webinars.
NOS Education creates innovative products that enlighten students and educators about the breadth of scientific research, technology, and activities conducted by NOS related to our ocean, coasts, and climate. These include lesson plans, resources, independent-learner tutorials, and more, for audiences of all ages. Our lesson plans and resources emphasize hands-on activities and problem-based learning. These resources are tailored to increase ocean and climate literacy, across grade bands and are correlated to the Next Generation Science Standards.
NOS Education works to build connections with education partners and federal agencies that enhance classroom-based science, technology, and engineering education. Some of our current partnerships include the National Science Teaching Association and National Earth Science Teachers Association.
