Monterey Bay Sanctuary, Aquarium to Announce Environmental Cartoon Contest Winners at Special Ceremony

NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the Monterey Bay Aquarium will announce the winner of their environmental message cartoon contest on Sunday, April 15 at an awards ceremony conducted during the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Día del Niño (Day of the Child) event. The top 20 entries will be recognized and the grand-prize winner will be awarded $200. The winning entry will be reproduced and displayed on the side of Monterey-Salinas Transit buses.

Top 20 contest winners: 5th-12th grade students

The environmental message cartoon contest is sponsored by the Monterey Bay sanctuary’s Multicultural Education for Resource Issues Threatening Oceans Program and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The cartoons promote the importance of water quality and protecting watersheds that lead to the ocean. The grand-prize winner will receive $200, and six other students will receive runner-up prizes during the awards ceremony. The winning entry will be reproduced and displayed on the side of the Monterey-Salinas Transit buses and will be used for education materials that include bilingual text (English and Spanish) about behaviors that contribute to ocean protection.
