Watch the first video evidence that lionfish had invaded the Atlantic Ocean. This lionfish was sighted during a NOAA research expedition off the coast of South Carolina in August 2002, during several submersible dives in waters up to 180 ft deep. The scientists in the sub do a double-take as the lionfish, native to the Pacific Ocean, pops out from around the coral they were studying! Although the scientists aboard the sub were excited, they were not pleased to see the invasive lionfish in U.S. waters.
