Ocean value

This constituent roundtable was the third in a series of Ocean Future Roundtables hosted by Dr. Richard Spinrad, Assistant Administrator, NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS). This roundtable focused on ocean value and vitality as seen through the topics of conservation, sustainable use and ocean health. NOS programs support: science for conservation solutions; observations and assessments to track ecosystem conditions; the development and evaluation of marine protected areas; contamination cleanup; and sustainable tourism, recreational activities and marine transportation.

NOS Coordinating Offices

One NOS program office is coordinating the third roundtable:

The Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) works to prevent and mitigate harm to coastal resources. OR&R is the primary NOAA office that responds to oil spills and hazardous material releases. OR&R works with federal, state and tribal natural resource trustees to restore damaged coastal resources. OR&R scientists assist other agencies, co-trustees, and coastal communities to resolve cleanup and liability settlements. OR&R also administers NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program. Information on the OR&R program can be found at the program’s Web site -- response.restoration.noaa.gov.
