Roundtable Program | Attendees | NOS Coordinating Offices
international issues

This roundtable focused on opportunities for improving and increasing the NOS’s international activities. Specific attention was given to ocean and coastal management, marine protected area management, and global observations, noted as priority topics by the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy and the recent World Summit on Sustainable Development. Discussion of these topics identified priority issues and requirements, potential NOS contributions, and possible new partnerships with governments, nongovernmental organizations, the private sector, and academia.

It coordinates activities between NOS, national and international governmental agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and others. IPO’s areas of expertise include integrated coastal management, marine protected area (MPA) management, mitigation of climate change impacts, safe and environmentally sound maritime navigation, reduction of natural disaster impacts, and capacity building.
