Living on the Edge
This roundtable, which was being held in conjunction with the Annual Ocean and Coastal Program Managers Meeting, focused on our nations coastal areas and NOAA's programs and services supporting state coastal management programs. A wide range of topics were addressed during the discussion, including the coastal management communitys use of NOSs models, trend analyses, and other tools. Participants focused on the topics of habitat change and land use, which are of primary interest according to a recent survey of the coastal management community.

NOS Coordinating Offices
Two NOS program offices are coordinating the fourth roundtable:
The NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC) provides skills and information resources to state and local coastal resource managers. CSC personnel, which include members of federal agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, the private sector, and state natural resource management agencies, offer training, consultations, access to new data and tools, and fellowship programs. CSC experts work directly with state and local partners to resolve site-specific issues. The center supports more than 100 projects throughout the year. Information on the Centers program can be found at the Centers Web site -- www.csc.noaa.gov
The Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) is responsible for implementing the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) of 1972. The office works with state and territorial governments to implement their coastal management programs and find local solutions to problems that occur throughout the entire nation. Thirty-four states and territories have active coastal management programs. OCRM also is responsible for implementing the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) that currently encompasses 26 estuarine field sites operated by state agencies and universities. Information on the OCRM program can be found at the programs Web site -- coastalmanagement.noaa.gov
