A map of Paula Whitfield’s study area in the Three Capes region (i.e., Cape Fear, Cape Lookout, and Cape Hatteras) off the coast of North Carolina. The red dots represent known lionfish populations. Paula and her team remained somewhat offshore of these locations to search and collect lionfish. The blue dots indicate the approximate locations of NOAA’S Undersea Research Center (NURC) in Wilmington, and NOAA’s Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research (NOAA) in Beaufort.
